First Nations

Refers to Indigenous peoples in Canada who are not Métis or Inuit.

Indigenous

A broad term for original peoples of North America.

Inuit

 Indigenous peoples of the Arctic regions of Canada, Greenland, and Alaska.

Métis

People of mixed Indigenous and European ancestry with distinct culture and heritage.

Queer

An umbrella term for sexual and gender identities outside of heterosexual and cisgender norms.

Two-Spirit (2S)

Describes a person who embodies both masculine and feminine spirits. Not all Indigenous LGBTQ+ people use this term.
